Rachel Rhodes (built-in (1993-04-15)April 15, 1993), known professionally as Rei Yasuda ( 安田レイ , Yasuda Rei ), is a Japanese vocalist and model. She portrayed and co-voiced the character Lumi, the fictional pb vocaliser of Genki Rockets in 2006. She debuted as a solo vocalizer in 2013.

Early life and education [edit]

Rachel Rhodes[1] was born in North Carolina, U.s.a. on Apr 15, 1993, but moved to Nihon at the age of 3.[2] She attended an American school at Yokota Air Base. Rhodes is a hāfu from an American male parent who was from Michigan[3] and a Japanese mother[4] and is fluent in both English and Japanese.[v] When Rhodes was in first grade,[6] she was inspired to become a vocaliser[7] afterwards hearing her female parent listening to "First Dear" by Hikaru Utada. She was later influenced by Mariya Takeuchi and Love Psychedelico.[i] When she was in third grade she listened to American R&B artists Alicia Keys and Usher.[half dozen] [8] [nine] Her younger brother is model Musashi Rhodes.[x] [11]

2006-2013: Genki Rockets [edit]

Yasuda commencement began modeling in 2006,[12] and appeared in a promotional campaign for Sony's CMOS Sensors.[13] At age 13, Yasuda auditioned to announced in Genki Rockets' music video by dancing to BoA's "Valenti" and singing "Happy Birthday to You." She passed the audience two days later and was non just asked to appear in the music video, but as a singer as well.[7] [14] Yasuda became the prototype model for Lumi, the band's virtual singer, and providing vocals forth with Nami Miyahara.[15] [16] [17] The ring's first single "Heavenly Star" and its music video were featured in video game Lumines II and No More Heroes.[18] The song was nominated for Best Song past Spike Video Game Awards in 2006[19] while the band won Best New Artist in Electronic category from iTunes in 2007.[twenty] Every bit her junior high school didn't allow students to perform, Yasuda kept her work with Genki Rockets a secret and later on transferred schools to go along pursuing a singing career.[21]

Yasuda acted as Lumi in Child of Eden, where she was resurrected as a persona in the 23rd century. 2013-present: Solo career [edit]

After graduating high school, Yasuda decided to pursue a full-time music career in spite of advice given to her to nourish academy instead.[14] In 2013, Yasuda inverse agencies and debuted as a solo vocalist under Sony Records with her Japanese name, Rei Yasuda,[26] debuting with "All-time of My Love", which served as the ending theme to Space Battleship Yamato 2199. Rei hosted her own program "City Girls Music" for Japan FM Network since 2016.[46] She also co-host "JA Zen-noh Countdown Nihon" with another British-Japanese radio personality George Williams for Tokyo FM in every Saturday noon began in April 2017.[47]

Rei was the NylonTV Japan'southward backstage reporter for Vantan Cut Border 2013 fashion show.[48] She was selected as Yahoo! Nihon smartphone guide for iTunes Festival 2014 in London, interviewing Foxes, Jenny Lewis, and Clean Bandit.[49] [50] She wrote the lyrics for the Japanese version of Charli XCX's vocal Blast Handclapping[51] and later wrote the lyrics for some of her own songs.[52] [53] She fabricated a cameo appearance in TBS drama "100 days: Honey, Marriage, Sickness and Mom" that used her song "Ashitairo" every bit theme song.[54]
